Early life

Oswalt was born on 27th January of 1969 in the Portsmouth of Virginia of the United States. Thus, he belongs to American nationality as he was born and grew up in the U.S. He was taken to the United States Marine Corps officer Larry J. Oswalt and Carla Oswalt. He has Scottish, Irish, English, German, and Italian ancestry.

Oswalt finished his schooling at Brad run High School in 1987 and joined The College of William & Mary, where he graduated with a degree in English. He also joined the military during his early years. Along with Matt Oswalt, who is his younger brother, followed the comedy path, and both of them received success in their way.

Unfortunately, his wife died on 21st April 2016 due to a heart condition. Oswalt finished the book called I’ll Be Gone in the Dark that his wife left incomplete, and later, he also dedicated The Goldbergs final series to his late wife.

A year after her wife’s death, Oswalt started dating American actress Meredith Salenger, and they got engaged and married the same year in late 2017. They don’t have their children yet.
