“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1

Mr. Eddie (Lil-Bro) Nicholson departed this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, when the Lord granted him relief from a prolonged illness. He was the fifth child of seven and born on March 9, 1951, in Portsmouth, VA, to the Late Mr. Ervin and Mrs. Christine White Nicholson. Eddie was called “Lil-Bro” because in the 1950’s, all boys had nicknames. Moreover, Lil-Bro was always Earvin’s and James’ little brother for 14 years until the birth of William Anthony “Tony” in 1965.

Eddie attended Portsmouth City Public Schools and enjoyed going to high school sports events, especially football. His hobbies included playing cards with family and friends and traveling. Even during his short stay at Northern Cardinal Rehabilitation, Eddie played cards in the cafeteria with the residents and utilized his electric wheelchair to amble throughout the facility. Surprisedly, Eddie vacationed in California and fell off a roller coaster. Because of God’s miraculous acts, he survived the fall.

Additionally, Eddie was gainfully employed with Seven Eleven until his health declined.  Moreover, he was a member of First Baptist Church South Portsmouth, Brighton section, under the leadership of the Honorable Pastor Warren Amlet. Eddie rededicated himself on August 9, 2015, and attended church faithfully regardless of his failing health. Likewise, Eddie enjoyed praising God.

Furthermore, Eddie brought joy to all he met. His neighbors loved him and brought meals and soda whenever he was unable to provide for himself. Because of his positive sense of humor, Eddie kept people laughing. He will be truly missed.

Eddie leaves to cherish his memory and in God’s care: two brothers Pastor James E. Nicholson, Sr. (Beverly A.) of Suffolk, VA; and William A. Nicholson (Letitia C.) of Richmond, VA; an aunt Mrs. Mattie L. Simmons of Louisburg, NC; five special  nieces (Patrice Robinson (Anthony) of Portsmouth, VA; Marlena Debrough of Norristown, PA; Melody Debrough of Suffolk, VA; Lakesa Baskerville (Robert) of Portsmouth; and Tanesha Ford of Newport News, VA; two special friends Blanche Futrell-Smith and Evelyn Woods, both of Portsmouth, VA; a host of nieces and nephews whose names are listed on the back of the program); great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, and friends.

Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Nicholson; a brother Earvin (Than) Nicholson, and three sisters, Christine Debrough, Shirline Slaughter, and Cynthia Bogan.
