Counting On star Joy-Anna Duggar has revealed she suffered a miscarriage during the second trimester of her pregnancy.

Joy-Anna and husband, Austin Forsyth, shared their heartbreaking news on their joint Instagram account hours ahead of the July 4th holiday. The post included a somber black and white photo of the couple, as they mourned the loss of their second child.

Last week Joy-Anna and Austin went in for what they thought would be a routine 20-week checkup. They were thrilled they were going to learn the gender of their baby. Unfortunately, the excitement they were feeling turned to devastation during the sonogram

“Today marks one week since we heard these words… ‘So this is your baby’s heart (pointing to the ultrasound screen). I don’t hear a heartbeat or see any movement. It was a baby girl. We named her Annabell Elise. Annabell means “God has favored me,” and Elise means “God satisfies.” What a precious thing to know that when our daughter opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was the face of Jesus,” the Instagram message read.

The couple included a scripture message to explain their feelings, as well as their understanding God has a plan.

“Although we don’t understand why God has given us unexplainable peace and comfort during this very difficult time. Yes, it still hurts, and we have cried countless tears, but we know that we can trust the Lord,” the message read, making it clear their faith is helping them through the devastating loss.

They concluded the post with one final note and a quote from famed mission worker Fanny Crosby.

“We don’t grieve as those who have no hope because we trust that we will see this little one again. Please pray for continued healing, not only physically but for our hearts as well,” it read before revealing the quote.
